This book is the combined life works of the two most renowned South African mycologists.
More than 150 mushroom species were carefully selected for inclusion in this field guide. These inclde the most common species but also many lesser known forms and some relatively recent finds. Each species is accompanied by full colour photographs of the mushroom in the field and/or in a laboratory setting to highlight distinguidhiing characteristics. Species accounts provide detailed descriptions of the different mushroom parts (including spore details) and discuss habitat, distribution and the edibility of each mushroom. Although primarily a visual guide, this book includes a descriptive key to identification to further assist the mushroom hunter. There are also features on mushroom poisoning and on collecting and preserving mushrooms.
